I must admit, the view out the window of my office at the nursery, is well… fabulous! Just a dusting of snow on the mountains, and the fields of hay and alfalfa are turning nutmeg brown. I am definitely getting into the holiday mode. I don’t know about you, but I just love the holiday season that starts several weeks prior to Thanksgiving and rounds out a week after New Years Day. Holidays are all about sharing, caring, family, friends, giving thanks, and oh yes… food. To counteract the calories I will inevitably, and joyfully consume, I always try to ramp-up my work-outs and activity level going into the Christmas season.
Daily Burn and Wireless Headphones
This week I started doubling-down on my Daily Burn workouts to everyday rather than the 3 days a week I normally do during the summer months. When you live rural driving to a gym is not that convenient, the closest one is 16 miles away, therefore live streaming workouts is perfect for me. If you’ve never done Daily Burn, drop into a live class at 6:00 am PST. It’s a great sweat and a good burn all wrapped up in just 30 minutes. When live streaming a class I like to really pump-up the volume to get me energized and moving early in the morning. To save the sanity of everyone else in the house I wear wireless headphones when working out. I probably look a little weird shouting back at the TV, but who the heck cares! I’ve gone through numerous pairs of headphones, starting at the budget $29 pair before settling on Bose Wireless Headphones. A little pricey at $140 the sound quality is pure joy, and they last. No plastic parts breaking, or scratchy static in your ear. I guess the old saying, “you get what you pay for” has merit.
Chanterelle Brussels Sprouts Tart Recipe
Those of you who know me, know that I love to cook almost as much as I love to garden. This time of year I try to use seasonal vegetables such as squash, turnips, parsnips and Brussels sprouts. This sinfully delicious recipe for Chanterelle Brussels Sprouts is from XO AMYS and combines two of my preferred foods, Brussels sprouts and pastry. Drop into her blog for unique recipes and lovely photography.
The recipe calls for Chanterelle mushrooms, but I used Morel mushrooms which grow wild in the mountains in Eastern Oregon around my farm. Before you go off in the wild and gather mushrooms make sure you know what you are doing, as not all mushrooms are safe to consume. Many larger grocer and specialty food chains now carry gourmet mushrooms.
Now go take on the week and enjoy!
