Ficus carica 'Chicago Hardy' is the cold-tough fig that opened backyard fig growing to gardeners far beyond the Mediterranean. Traced to the resilient Sicilian Mount Etna stock, it ripens medium, mahogany-purple figs with deep-red, syrupy flesh that tastes of berry jam and honey.
