Easy to grow yellow onion sets!
Onion sets, often referred to as bulbs, are the perfect choice for gardeners looking to get an early start in spring. These small starter onions are not only more reliable but also easier to cultivate compared to seeding or transplanting. They flourish effortlessly in quality garden soil, making them an ideal addition to your vegetable patch.
For optimal growth, plant the yellow onion sets 3 to 6 inches apart in rows, ensuring at least a foot of space between each row. As summer progresses, you’ll know it’s time to harvest when the tops start to fall over—a clear sign that your onions are ready. Simply pull them from the soil and let them cure in a dry, airy spot for 14 days.
Once your onions have cured, you have the option to beautifully braid the tops or trim them off for storage. For the best results, keep your onions in a dark, cool, and dry location at temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Embrace the reward of your hard work and enjoy the delightful flavors of homegrown onions in your culinary creations!
