20th Century Asian Pear: Crisp, Sweet, and Beautiful
The 20th Century Asian Pear, also known as Nijisseiki, is a fruit tree that delivers delicious harvests and four-season beauty. Combining the crisp texture of an apple with the juicy sweetness of a pear, this easy-care tree is a favorite for home orchards and edible landscapes alike. Whether you're growing fruit for fresh snacking or simply want a tree that looks as good as it performs, this variety is an outstanding choice.
In spring, the branches burst into a display of fragrant white blossoms that brighten the landscape and attract pollinators. As the season progresses, glossy green foliage creates an attractive backdrop for the developing fruit. By late summer, you'll harvest round, golden-yellow pears with crisp, juicy flesh and exceptional flavor. In fall, the leaves transform into rich shades of fiery red, giving the tree one final spectacular display before winter.
The 20th Century Asian Pear is easy to grow and requires only light pruning to maintain its shape and productivity. It is self-fertile, so a single tree will produce fruit on its own, though planting another Asian pear nearby can increase yields. Young trees begin producing in just a few seasons, with harvests becoming larger as the tree matures.
One of the biggest advantages of this variety is its excellent storage life. Fresh-picked pears can be refrigerated for months, making them perfect for enjoying long after harvest. They're also excellent for canning, freezing, baking, and fresh eating thanks to their firm, juicy texture.
