Reka Blueberry (Early Harvest)
Reka is an early Northern Highbush blueberry with very vigorous, upright, open growth. Its medium-to-large, dark-blue berries have good flavor and work especially well for processing, freezing, baking, and preserves.
Reka Blueberry Highlights
- Harvest: Early season; timing varies by climate.
- Fruit: Medium to large, dark blue, with a medium picking scar and good flavor.
- Plant habit: Very vigorous, upright, and open; typically about 4–6 feet with pruning.
- Climate fit: Listed for USDA Zones 4–7 with a 500–1,000-hour chill range.
- Plant form: One dormant bare-root plant.
Pollination
Reka is generally self-fertile, but another Northern Highbush cultivar with overlapping bloom can improve berry size and yield. Consider Draper or Patriot.
Planting and Care
Plant in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil, ideally around pH 4.5–5.5. Maintain even moisture and mulch the shallow root zone. Reka can overcrop if not pruned, so renew fruiting wood annually and thin crowded growth to support berry size.
